Ali Tibet private route landscape

Ali Tibet

World's Unique Plateau Lakes

Plan the route around you

Who this journey suits

Ali, also called Ngari, is the focus of this private Western Tibet journey. For travellers who value remote plateau landscapes and accept long road days and variable comfort. Less suitable for a short, low-altitude holiday or a plan requiring identical hotel standards every night.

Arrival and departure

Lhasa is a planning gateway; the final start, remote section and return point are agreed after access checks. The 10–14 day framework below covers a broader journey; a shorter scenic segment is not the entire arrival-to-departure itinerary.

Season and pace

May–October is the existing planning window. Road access and individual lake or mountain visits require a dated check; do not schedule a remote highlight as an inflexible last-day connection.

What to prioritise

Keep arrival and return time around the remote section. Prefer a shorter feasible route to removing rest or weather flexibility. Confirm each overnight stay and do not interpret Lhasa hotel examples as a promise for remote nights.

Suggested itinerary framework · 10-14 days

This is a flexible planning framework, not a fixed departure. Exact overnight stops, driving times, entrance arrangements and daily activities are confirmed in your written plan.

  1. Day 1

    Arrival and altitude preparation

Settle into the gateway city, review the route and begin the journey at a measured pace.

  2. Days 2-4

Across sacred lakes and plateau roads

Travel through wide valleys, mineral-colored lakes and small settlements shaped by high-altitude life.

  3. Days 5-9

    Toward the far west

Continue into the remote Ngari region, with flexible stops for light, weather and rest.

  4. Days 10-14

    Return with time to decompress

Complete the route with a gentler rhythm, allowing time for rest before departure.

Service scope and stays

The route uses the most comfortable available stays for each area, balanced with realistic expectations in remote plateau regions.

Private vehicle planning, experienced local driving support and careful pacing are central to this journey.

Services to agree in your plan

  • Private itinerary design
  • Local guide coordination where needed
  • Vehicle and driver arrangement
  • Hotel arrangement support
  • Airport transfer planning
  • Destination logistics
  • Travel support during the journey
  • Special requests coordination

Not included unless agreed separately

  • International or domestic flights unless arranged separately
  • Meals and personal expenses not agreed in the final itinerary
  • Optional activities not included in the confirmed plan
  • Visa, entry, and destination requirements handled independently unless specified
  • Personal coverage, medical expenses, and items of a private nature

Questions before you travel

Can every foreign visitor follow the same route?

No. Tibet requires travel arrangements and permits appropriate to the traveller and itinerary. Confirm access through a specialist operator before non-refundable bookings; China entry permission does not by itself settle Tibet access.

Does an oxygen concentrator make the route suitable for everyone?

No. Discuss the overnight altitude sequence and personal suitability with a qualified clinician. Equipment is not a substitute for an appropriate itinerary.
